3i India Infrastructure Fund Invests $101 Million in Soma Enterprise

Hyderabad’s engineering and construction firms continue to attract private equity investments. 3i India Infrastructure Fund , an investment fund established by 3i Group, has invested $101 million for a minority stake in Soma Enterprise Ltd , a city based engineering and construction firm. Company Chairman and MD, Ankineedu Magant i and his family will maintain a large majority stake in the business, a release said. Previously, Hyderabad’s infrastructure construction companies like Ramky Infrastructure ($28 million from Sabre-Abraaj, IL&FS Investment), Ramky Group ($100 million from Lehman Brothers), KVK Energy & Infrastructure ($26 million by Old Lane) and Indu Projects ($33 million from Citigroup Venture Capital) have landed private equity funding. Navayuga submits proposal for 12 million tonne steel plant in Orissa

Hyderabad based Indian company ' Navayuga Group ' has dared to rival Arcelor-Mittal and Posco, by proposing to establish a gigantic 12 million tonne per annum steel mill in Orissa. Mr U P Singh state secretary for steel & mines of Orissa said that “We have received a proposal from Navayuga group for a 12 million tonne per annum capacity unit.” He added that Navayuga group is interested to set up a port based steel facility, preferably at Astaranga in Puri district of Orissa. A state government official said that “Navayuga group’s proposal for developing a port is in the final stages of getting approval, but the state government is yet to examine its application for setting up a mega steel plant. The land and water requirements as well as raw material linkage have to be studied. The proposal will be placed before the single window clearance authority headed by the chief secretary before a decision is taken.” Mr Chinta Visveswara Rao chairman of Navayuga Engineering Company

UNPA Rythu Garjana, very big success

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) took out an impressive rally from NTR Circle to VR Siddhartha Engineering College where it organised Rythu Garjana public meeting to highlight the problems of farmers and demand Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy and 13 other crops. Lakshmi Machine Works is ranked 17th in the BusinessWeek , ‘ Asia’s Hot Growth Companies’ Thirteen Indian firms have been named in a list of 100 fastest-growing small and mid-size companies in Asia, with some emerging on top in terms of sales and capital returns. According to ‘Asia’s Hot Growth Companies’ list, prepared by US-based financial magazine BusinessWeek, India is home to a higher number of such companies than China, whose presence is limited to just eight firms. Besides, India is next only to Taiwan and Japan, which have been represented by 24 and 18 firms respectively. Among the Indian firms, Lakshmi Machine Works is ranked 17th, followed by Kirloskar Brothers (18th) and Godrej Consumer Products (23rd). Golmaal Government (CAG report)

539 crores Golmaal in 2006-07 Andhra Pradesh has wiped out the revenue deficit for the fiscal 2006-07, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) report. During the fiscal, the revenue receipts were Rs 44,245 crore, while the revenue expenditure was Rs 41,438 crore.The report said that the government could build up a surplus of Rs 2,807 crore for the current fiscal. The Comptroller and Auditor-General of India (CAG) has indicted the A.P. Government for extending “unintended and undue benefits to the tune of Rs. 539 crore” to contractors as part of ‘Jalayagnam’ under six projects envisaged on the Godavari. The CAG report for the financial year 2006-07 was tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday. Giving the highlights of the report at a press conference, Principal Accountant-General (civil audit) of AP S.B. Heritage Foods plans to raise Rs.100 crore for it's expansion

Milk and milk products company Heritage Foods (India) Ltd (HFIL), which entered the organized or formal retail business with its Fresh@ brand last year, plans to raise $25 million (about Rs100 crore) to part-finance its expansion. HFIL, which ended 2006-07 with revenues of Rs348 crore, has been promoted by family members of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu . The company plans to raise the money by placing equity with qualified institutional buyers (QIBs) shortly. The company also plans to offer equity to its promoters through a preferential allotment to raise more than Rs.20 crore.
