Achanta Sharath Kamal clinches 3rd gold

Indian ace paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal on Saturday clinched his third gold of the National Games by winning the individual men's title. Achanta, who won gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games, did not break a sweat in his clinical 4-0 win over Bengal's Anirban Nandi in a match which lasted for 16 minutes. In the one-sided match, Achanta kept the pressure on Nandi right from the word go and didn't give the Bengal paddler to settle down. Nandi did get off to a good start in the first set as he was leading 4-3, but Achanta made a solid comeback by giving away only one point to his opponent before winning it 11-5. Achanta gave away nine points in the second set but there was no let off from the Tamil Nadu paddler as he clinched it 11-9. There was no looking back for Achanta after taking a 2-0 lead as he won the next two sets with an identical score of 11-6.

Madhucon Projects bags order worth Rs 12 bn

Madhucon Projects (Nama Nageswara Rao, Chairman & MD) announced that it has obtained a letter of award for order worth around Rs 12,000 cror es from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The order is for 4-laning of Barsasat-Krsihagar section of NH-34 (84 kms) in the state of West Bengal under National Highway Development Program (NHDP-III) on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) Annuity basis. As per terms, Madhucon has to design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) Annuity basis under NHDP-III for semi-annual annuity of Rs 739.8 million. The concession period is 17 years, including construction period of 910 days. As on date, the company is having order on hand to the extent of Rs 41 billion and has been pre-qualified in number of EPC works over Rs 100 billion in irrigation, highways, railways, power projects and transmission line projects, etc .

Maoists free collector Vineel Krishna Ravella

BHUBANESWAR: Maoists finally released Malkangiri collector Ravella Vineel Krishna on Thursday. The collector, abducted on February 16, was freed at Doliamba, a village bordering the Chitrakonda-Balimela forests, 750 km from here. Malkangiri District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project director Balwant Singh received Krishna. According to initial reports, around 15 Maoists dropped the collector at Doliamba village where a meeting of local tribal people was held. One of the local Maoists explained that the collector was abducted for the cause of tribals who were being 'exploited' and 'oppressed' by the state administration. The reports said the collector was held on a well-guarded hilltop, eight km from Doliamba. Armed militia was deployed all-around the hill to repulse any possible attempt of attack by security forces. Indian Grand Prix prompted Tata to back Karthikeyan

New Delhi, (IANS) The inaugural Formula One race in New Delhi later this year was one of the reasons that prompted Tata Motors to back Kakarla Kumar Ram Narain Karthikeyan 's return to the sport after five years. Karthikeyan will be seen in action with Tata Motors sponsored Hispania Racing Team in the Oct 28-30 race and a top official of the Indian automobile giant admitted that backing the Coimbatore lad was a natural choice as it helps in 'brand enhancement'. Microsoft today filed a report disclosing the stock award given to Satya Nadella , who was promoted to president of the server and tools business on Feb. 9. Nadella, 43, received 217,499 shares that vest in blocks starting Aug. 29 and continuing until Oct. 21, 2012. At today's closing price -- $27.06 -- that's a $5,885,522.94 (Rs.26,54,95,942/ -) signing bonus. Strangely, the filing says that Nadella doesn't own any shares directly or indirectly. Either that's an omission or Nadella's done a lot of diversification in his 19 years at Microsoft.

Bhubaneswar: A senior IAS officer in Orissa's Malkangiri district has been kidnapped by the Maoists. District Collector Ravella Vineel Krishna was kidnapped while he was returning after an interaction programme in Gumma block of tribal-dominated Malkangiri district. The incident happened on Wednesday, just two days before Home Minister P Chidambaram's scheduled video-conference with the Collectors of 60 Maoist-hit districts. This is for the first time that the Maoists have kidnapped an IAS officer. Malkangiri Additional SP A Das said there has been no communication with the Collector since Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-year-old Vineel Krishna, an IIT-Madras graduate, joined administrative service in 2005. Krishna was posted as the District Collector of Malkangiri 16 months ago. In a move described as “planned transition”, Ashok Leyland on Saturday appointed Mr Vinod Dasari the company's Managing Director in the place of Mr R. Seshasayee, who has been promoted the company's Executive Vice-Chairman. Mr Seshasayee, who has been the face of Ashok Leyland for decades having served the company for the better part of his working life, will from April focus on “strategic initiatives towards globalisation of the company's operations,” says a press release from the company. This makes the total number of stamps on film personalities issues so far to just over twenty, even as the film industry is completing one hundred years of its existence next year. He replaces Bob Muglia, whose departure was announced last month. The seventh-grader began sobbing with joy on stage when told she had correctly spelled the Shoshone word that means an icy winter fog. Swetha defeated 42 other top-notch spellers at the bee held Thursday at Frontier Trail Middle School, sponsored by The Olathe News. She will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on June 1-2. “Awesome,” was how the 13-year-old described her feelings after winning. She has been entering spelling bees since she was in the first grade and this was her fourth year at the district level. Kamineni Steel achieves financial closure

Kamineni Steel & Power India , part of the Hyderabad-based Kamineni group (Kamineni Suryanarayana Chairman) , has on Friday announced financial closure for its 3.6 lakh tonnes steel billets and 220 mw gas-based power project, involving a total capital outlay of Rs 1,534 crore. Chairman Kamineni Suryanarayana said a consortium of nine banks led by Indian Bank has arranged Rs 1,248 crore of loans. The balance will be pumped in by the promoters in the form of equity, he said. The project, coming up at Narketpalli in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh, will take off over the next 18 months. The company has already placed orders for equipment and also tied up gas supplies for the power project with the Gas Authority of India (Gail), he said. Suryanarayana said the project is coming up adjacent to the facilities of other group companies which are into manufacture of seamless tubes used in the oil and gas drilling operations by the Indian public and private sector giants including ONGC

Investment of Rs. 350 crore 3500 tonnes per day sugar crushing capacity NSL Sugars , a part of Hyderabad based NSL Group (Mandava Prabhakara Rao, Chairman ), announced today that its Mahbubnagar Plant, Krishnaveni Sugars, has commenced operations. It is an integrated Sugar, Co-generation power and Fuel grade ethanol project set up at Kothakota Mandal of Mahbubnagar district in Andhra Pradesh. NSL invested Rs. 350 crore to build the integrated sugar complex. The overall cost of the project has been funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt.
